How To Get Rid Of Cravings

So I'm doing a 3-day soup cleanse and the cravings for carbs are real. 

Even during a short detox, your body will probably have some intense cravings for sweets.

Cravings usually only last between 10 to 20 minutes, and you can try just to let it pass, it usually will. But when they don't it and you feel like you need carbs NOW, you can try these helpful steps to send them away:
 
1. Have a drink. 
Thirst is often confused with hunger. Try drinking a large glass of water (I always add apple cider vinegar for flavour), then wait 10 or 15 minutes and see how you feel.
 
2. Double check. 
Are you really hungry? Carb cravings are usually your first craving when you are hungry they are the fastest source of energy. Take time to prepare some real food to address the hunger. Show your body and mind who's boss. 
 
3. Walk it off. 
Get your mind off of things. Change the scenery for 15 minutes. Step it up a notch, this'll increase the release of endorphins, which will crush those cravings.
 
4. Take a hot shower. 
Not always available, but if it's an option, it will help you relax and give you perspective on your cravings. Turn cravings into self-care time. Reduced stress is always great to keep cravings controlled. Your body will appreciate it too.
 
5. Eat a high fat snack.
This can include nuts, seeds, avocado, vegetable sticks with hummus or natural nut butter, or a protein smoothie with fats (no added sugar).
 
6. Get chewing. 
Chew some sugar-free gum that is sweetened with Xylitol. Some good brands are Pür Gum, Glee Gum, and Xyla.
 
7. How are you feeling? 
Are you tired, hangry or stressed? See if you can do anything about those issues before you reach for carbs. A great quick fix is to take three deep breaths – it has been clinically shown to reduce stress. I do it all the time.
 
8. Eat a bit of what you're craving. 
Keep it under 150 calories and combine it with a healthy fat and protein combination like almonds. Don’t feel guilty! Savor it. Then go re-visit why you want to reduce carbs in the first place and get back on the horse.
