Yes, there is a connection between detox and weight loss, but it’s probably not what you think
I want to talk to you about the importance of Detox, not only because it is a huge buzzword in the health and wellness industry, but also because it is a topic I’ve become very passionate about.
You’re likely to encounter more information on detox these days because after relaxed summer vacations everyone’s getting back into routines, wanting to shed some of the weight that has accumulated thanks to lavish outdoor patio times.
Detox is the name of the game as it offers a quick, drastic solution to our problems – just what we need, right?!
Even though detox programs and juice cleanses are the way to go for many, there are still practitioners that claim such program are a bunch of nonsense since our bodies already detoxify ALL. THE. TIME.
Guess what, it’s true! We do detoxify ALL THE TIME. It’s one of the 500 things our liver does CONSTANTLY. During times when we eat and drink more than usual, that long to-do list can get a bit backed up – kind of like a filter that gets clogged up.
So, the fact that the liver is a busy and important organ might not be news to you, but did you know that it is the major fat burning organ in the body and that it regulates fat metabolism?
It can pump excess fat out of the body through bile and into our small intestines and if the diet is high in fiber, it can transport unwanted fat out of the body through our bowels.
Fascinating! At least I think so…
Now what if all this is not happening as it should?
Well, if the liver is not able to regulate our fat metabolism efficiently, an increase in abdominal fat will be observed and a bulging pot belly may develop :/
What can be done to improve this?
To shed this unwanted abdominal fat, liver function must improve. Once our liver is able to function optimally again, it can start burning fat more efficiently again and those extra pounds melt away gradually.
The lessons behind this is not to make yourself miserable by following a low fat, low calorie diet. The most effective long term solution is to eat the correct foods and nutrients for the liver to improve its fat burning function.
